If you’ve ever tried to record anything over the internet, you’ll know the rule. The second you hit record, your connection decides it’s had enough of this world and quietly leaves the chat.
That was us this week.
Eric is away doing real work, covering the Australian Women’s Championship, so it was just Spoon and me holding the fort. I was fighting technical issues like I’d been transported back to 2006, while Spoon did what Spoon does best: stayed calm, kept the show moving, and casually continued his recent run of tipping form that’s becoming genuinely offensive to the rest of us.
In terms of content, Monday in Major League Baseball was the kind of day where you blink and miss three storylines. Chaos, weird results, early-season overreactions, and the general feeling that baseball is already doing that thing where it refuses to be normal. We worked through the biggest bits of the day, then Spoon added a fresh layer to the “teams in trouble” conversation.
Important note: these weren’t the same warning lights we hit last week. Spoon threw two new teams into the danger zone, and his angle wasn’t just vibes. It was the kind of early-season read that makes you annoyed because he’s probably right, and you didn’t want to admit it yet.
Then we did what we always do when the slate is staring at us. We got to Spoon’s Midweek Mail. He’s been seeing the board clearly lately, and even with me dropping in and out like a dodgy Zoom call from 2020, we got through it.
And then, right at the end, as the episode was limping across the line, I dropped a Peter Gibbons reference. If you know, you know. If you don’t, go watch Office Space.
