This week’s episode is a weird one in the best way. It’s on a Wednesday because Eric couldn’t jump in yesterday (rare), and we’re recording while games are actually happening (even rarer). The result is basically a love letter to rookies, because rookies have been absolutely everywhere to start the season.
We led off with Travis Bazzana big-league debut. For anyone who’s watched Aussie baseball pathways for a while, it’s one of those moments that makes you pause for a second. We talked about seeing him when he was younger, what kind of impact he could make for the Guardians, and why it’s oddly true right now that if you’re tracking Australian players, the two teams you end up watching are Cleveland and Washington (Curtis Mead). Which sounds made up, but isn’t.
We also kept a close eye on the season debut of Trey Yesavage, because first starts can tell you plenty even when the line doesn’t. Then we moved to Munetaka Murakami, who has arrived in Chicago like he’s trying to speedrun the rookie record book.
Somewhere in the middle, Spoon committed the classic sin of briefly letting the Mets off life support… only for them to head to Colorado and get swept, which meant the machine went straight back in. We hit a few ABS winners and losers, ran out of time for another Theme Team (we’ll get it next time), and finished with Spoon’s two favourite overs for the midweek slate.
If you like rookies, chaos, and runs on the board, this one’s for you.
